Write a list and stick to it! (for the most part)
How many times have we heard this piece of advice? And despite our best efforts, we always promise ourselves we’ll get into the habit, but always forget and then end up coming home with 1. A lot of groceries you don’t need and 2. Missing groceries you do need!
If you’re just not a list type person, this might help. Buy a black board or white board or you might even like to use your smart phone. Keep a ‘essentials’ list that you know you’ll need to buy every time – this can include things like eggs, milk and bread and veges. Then, each time you run out of something write it down on the list. Take a photo of the list before you go shopping on your smartphone. Or, download one of the many shopping list apps!
The only time to ignore this advice is when you are shopping for fresh fruit and veges and meat and see a deal – for example, if spinach is on sale, and broccoli is full price, consider how you can swap spinach out for broccoli in your meal plan.
